HOOVER, Ala. — Oxford football coach Johnny Hill brought his team to the National Select 7-on-7 Championships for the experience of playing against some of the best high school teams in the nation. Hill wanted the 11th annual event held at Hoover High School and the Hoover Met to challenge his skill players before summer drills started.
Hill also wanted his team to grow as a unit while they worked on their fundamentals. And lastly, he wanted them to compete and win games in order to capture the title.
The Chargers were able to experience several different things Thursday during pool play. They went 4-3 on the field to draw the No. 12 seed out of 32 teams heading into the double-elimination portion of the tournament. Outside of one game, Hill felt his team gave great effort in wins and losses, and considering how much Division I talent is on the teams, it appears the Chargers were challenged physically.
