Five current players and three signees were drafted during Major League Baseball’s First-Year Players Draft.
Stuart Turner and Mike Mayers were selected in the third round by the Minnesota Twins and St. Louis Cardinals respectively.
Bobby Wahl, projected to go between 30th and 50th, fell to the Oakland Athletics’ fifth-round selection at No. 161.
Saturday, Brett Huber and Tanner Bailey were each selected in the 31st and 32nd round by the Detroit Tigers.
The draft probably couldn’t have been much better with regard to Ole Miss’ incoming signing class. Left-hander Cody Reed was drafted 46th overall by the Kansas City Royals, but infielder Dalton Dulin and first baseman/outfielder J.B. Woodman were not selected until the 36th and 40th rounds by the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets. (June 10, 2013, Page 8)
