Oxford picked an ideal opponent to play its best baseball of the summer season. The Chargers defeated Lafayette 10-2 Friday night at Edwin Moak Field in a NEMCABB game that decided seeding for both teams in this week’s tournament finale.
The Chargers, who will play Baldwyn today in the next round of the NEMCABB Tournament in New Albany, spotted the Commodores a run in the top of the first inning before taking the lead for good in the bottom half of the frame with a two-run homer from Jack McClure. Oxford then put the game away by scoring seven runs on seven hits in the second inning. Michael Bianco, Tyler Hallam, Pittman Phillips and Drew Phillips all drove in runs with singles while Brooks Krouse scored another run on a groundout.
