OHS eliminates Perkins as coach of boys soccer, girls track

BLOG — Oxford High School is in search for a new head boys soccer and girls track & field coach after the district decided to part ways with Jamie Perkins.

A final decision on Perkins was reached Monday morning. The official reason given for Perkins’ termination was labeled as a “personnel matter.” He is still employed as a math teacher at the alternative school. Perkins helped lead the Chargers to their first state title in boys soccer this past winter. Oxford defeated Pearl 2-0 on Feb. 2 at Clinton High School. He served as the Chargers’ head coach for four seasons.

“Oxford had never been here before, never. I was trying to help bring tradition here and look where we’re at. I’m excited about the future of Oxford soccer. Now that we’ve won one, maybe people will start talking about Oxford soccer — Oxford may not be that bad after all,” Perkins said following the win over the Pirates.

Perkins also had success leading the Lady Chargers on the track. In his four seasons, he won three MHSAA Class 5A state titles and helped guide them to a second-place finish this past season. More details on Perkins’ dismissal, specifically the hiring of one or two new coaches, will become available in the next few days. (June 4, 2013)
