*UPDATE* Search ends for the night for missing teen

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department has called off the search for a missing Lafayette County 19-year-old boy whose been missing since Monday night.

Sheriff F.D. Buddy East said the search for Stephen Tyler Emerick was called just before dusk due to unsafe conditions for rescuers. The search will begin again in the morning, East said.

Emerick’s truck was discovered by a Water Valley police officer at about 8 this morning on a dirt road near the Tallahatchie River near Grinder’s Switch off Highway 328. Witness reports say the truck’s door was open and the keys were in the ignition. A bait bucket was nearby but it was unknown if Emerick was there to fish.

East is asking that no one to tries to search for Emerick tonight on their own because the terrain could be dangerous.

Emerick, who is known to friends as Tyler, is described as about 140 pounds, 5-feet, 5-inches tall with red hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt. He has a Ducks Unlimited tattoo on his left arm. His mother, Samantha Clark, said her son never did anything like this before and has no medical or mental conditions that would cause him to wander off. Anyone with information should call, 234-6421.
