Oxford’s bid to win a sixth straight tennis title was put on hold for the second time in three days Friday afternoon. Rain in the Metro Jackson area prevented the 19-0 Chargers from meeting up with Stone County this past Wednesday or Friday, the original re-schedule date set by the MHSAA.
Oxford, which defeated Stone County the past two years in the Class 5A title match, will now play May 14 at the Ridgeland Tennis Center starting at 9 a.m. The individual state championships for both boys and girls were also pushed back to May 15-16. Oxford will play all those matches in Ridgeland.
The Chargers advanced to the state title match by defeating Starkville in the 5A North Half title match. Stone County defeated Gautier to win the South title for the third consecutive season.
