The Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers advanced to the MACJC state baseball tournament thanks to two wins over Gulf Coast Monday. The Tigers are assisted by former Lafayette High head coach Richy Harrelson and Jake Mills, who played for the Commodores under Harrelson.
Former LHS standouts Luke Stanley and Josh Mills are members of the team as is former Oxford High standout Hunt Halford. Mills was injured and not able to play against Gulf but he finished the year hitting .359 with two home runs and 21 RBIs.
Stanley is hitting .263 with 20 RBIs, while Halford was 1-0 with a 4.56 ERA in 23.2 innings. The Tigers lost the first game to Gulf Coast 7-2 on Saturday but won 9-4 and 5-4 Monday to advance. NECC is 30-16 heading to play in Poplarville, the site of this year’s state tournament. (May 7, 2013, Page 8)
