Chargers roll past Stone Co. to win 5A title

RIDGELAND — A second hand will be needed to place the Oxford Chargers’ latest MHSAA tennis championship ring on after they defeated Stone County 6-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Ridgeland Tennis Center.

It was the third straight win over the Tomcats for the Chargers (20-0 overall) in the Class 5A title match and unlike the 2012 edition that came down to the wire, the Chargers took no prisoners Tuesday.

The elder members of the team, such as Robert Nance, who has won four straight titles, Arlis Williams, Baxter Elliott and Kara Rose, ripped through their respective doubles matches in about 30 to 45 minutes. Elliott and Rose were off the court first after defeating Kolby Krohn and Lexi Johnson 6-1, 6-1.
