VIDEO BLOG — Oxford is one win from playing for the Class 5A North Half title. Thanks to a 7-3 victory over Hernando Saturday night at Edwin Moak Field, the Chargers moved one step closer to winning the best-of-three series and moving on in the baseball playoffs.
The Chargers won Saturday’s game in large part because of the way seniors William Elliott and Henry Webb performed at the plate. As good as Hunter Roth was on the mound for the Chargers — he went the distance to record his third complete game of the year — his pitching was enhanced thanks to a solid offensive night at the plate led by Elliott, who had a single, double and two RBIs, and Webb, who reached base all four times he visited the plate. Webb also drove in two runs on a single and a triple.
Game 2 of the series is Monday in Hernando. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. Below is a video interview with Elliott and Webb, who both talk about the importance of winning the opener as well as the reasons for their success at the plate against Hernando starter Caleb Goff and Ian Painter, who came on in relief.
