A male body was found near Prophet Bridge on Highway 315 in the Yocona River at around 4 p.m. Monday. Representatives of the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department said the body is being sent to Jackson for an autopsy and identification.
Stephen Tyler Emerick, 19, has been missing since April 29 and his truck was found near the river on May 1. Search crews have been looking in the woods and the river for him since that time.
Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy said they have recovered the remains of a male and will take the body to Jackson for an autopsy this morning and will go through proper channels of identifying the body, Kennedy said.
The family was in the area for the search when the body was discovered but Kennedy said local officials are waiting until they get results from Jackson before they determine the identification.
“We did not let anyone identify the remains,” Kennedy said.
The Facebook page titled, “Help Find Stephen Tyler Emerick” that grew to have more than 7,000 likes in recent days, posted the following on Monday afternoon:
“We are deeply saddened at this moment. It is confirmed they have found Tyler where they were searching. PLEASE pray to give this family strength.” (May 6, 2013)
