The Oxford Middle school Chargers totaled 240 points to capture the Pontotoc Invitational Tuesday.
In field events, Colton Skidmore first first in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 43 feet, 5 inches. Nick Sisk finished second. D.Q. Thomas and Kennard Harris finished first and second in the triple jump, while Thomas won the long jump. Thomas Allen was first in the discus. Kent Higginbotham was fourth in the discus, while Devin Rockette was third in the high jump.
Oxford’s distance runners fared very well on the track as no runner finished worst than third. Jonathon Tyler and John Yost finished first and second in both the 3,200 and 1,600 meter run. David Chang was second in the 800, while Kyle Rock was third. Oxford also dominated in the relays, winning all events and fielding multiple teams in the relays to garner points. The 4×200 team finished first with a time of 1 minute, 45 seconds, the best mark of the season. Rockette, Thomas, Harris and Torrey Gordon made up that team. The 4×100 team of Jordan Carothers, Harris, Rockette and Gordon also recorded a season-best time of 47.01 to finish first. Oxford also had four teams in the 4×400 all finished one through four. The winning team was made up of Keaton Calhoun, D.T. Thompson, Carothers and Thomas. Individual track events included Gordon finishing second in the 100 and 200. A.J. Gable was first in the 400 with a 58.95 and second in the 200. Calhoun was second in the 400. Allen won the 110 hurdles, while Jacquan Webb was second. Webb did win the 300 hurdles.
