OHS tennis makes clean sweep at 2-5A Tournament

The Oxford tennis team continued its dominance of MHSAA Class 5A tennis programs Friday, making a clean sweep of the 2-5A tournament at the John Leslie Tennis Courts.

Quinn Elliott won the boys singles with two 6-0, 6-0 victories.

Grace-Anne Jones won the girls singles with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories as well. Kara Rose and Baxter Elliott teamed up to claim mixed doubles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over West Point and a 6-2, 6-2 triumph against Saltillo.

Two OHS boys tandems of Will Swindoll and Robert Nance, and Callan Shinall and Arlis Williams met in the boys doubles finals. Swindoll and Nance won 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0 to reach the finals, while Shinall and Williams made it to the finals with a 6-0, 6-0 victory and a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

Two Lady Charger tandems also made the girls doubles finals. Embrey Inman and Sarah Nash won 6-0, 6-0 twice, while McClellan Davis and Madison Cobb won 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 to meet in the finals.

Each of the aforementioned Chargers and Lady Chargers qualified for the state tournament next month by winning their respective categories. (April 15, 2013, Page 10)
