IUKA — Doing all the little things right, like putting down a squeeze bunt, playing great defense and not making critical mistakes like coach Patrick Robey stressed to his Commodores paid off for them Thursday night. Lafayette won the first game of its MHSAA Class 4A baseball playoff series opener against Tishomingo County 5-3 thanks in large part to the way it handled things late.
A suggestion made by Josh Keel for Eli Murphree to put down a squeeze bunt with D.K. Buford on third base ended up tying the game in the top of the seventh inning. The Commodores (19-8 overall) then went ahead for good to capture the come-from-behind win by capitalizing on an error made by TCHS.
