Lady Chargers remain unbeaten in 2-5A softball

Two five-run innings on offense helped lift the Oxford Lady Chargers to a 13-10 win over West Point Tuesday night.

The victory improved the Lady Chargers to 2-0 in the division heading into a key home game against Saltillo on Thursday. West Point rallied and got close to the Lady Chargers, but were never able to take a lead thanks to some key runs scored in the fifth and sixth innings. Alexus and Kyla Malone each had two hits to pace the Lady Chargers.

Dee Dee Mathis, Mallory Tucker, Lindsey Stout and Rachel Bayles each had a hit, with Mathis collecting a triple in the sixth and Stout having a double in the fifth. Pitcher Ciara Steward finished with eight strikeouts in earning the victory. She allowed eight hits and walked four. Thursday’s doubleheader with Saltillo is scheduled to begin with the varsity matchup at 5 p.m. (April 3, 2013, Page 9)
