Lady Chargers capture MS track meet

The Oxford Lady Chargers won their home middle school track by taking first place in six events.

Oxford finished with 79 points, 20 better than Pontotoc. Charleston finished with 36, Lafayette and Tunica each had 28, while Grenada garnered 17. In the high jump, Jordan Freeze took first with a leap of 4 feet, 3 inches. Anne Dennis won the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 17 seconds. Tiara King won the 200 in 22 seconds, while Swayze Elliott won the 800 in 2 minutes, 32 seconds. The 4×100 team of King, Ally Shinall, Elliott and Ann Marie Blackmon won first with a 1:40.

The 4×200 team of King, Shinall, Jakiara Dunn and Blackmon won first with a 1:58, while the 4×400 team of Arden Davis, Elliott, Sylvia Culpepper and Dunn won first with a 4:42.

Second-place finishers included Alexis Williams in the discus (65 feet), Monya Baskins in the shot put (29.7), Margaret Pepper Adams in the 3,200, Calicia Zinn in the 100, Dennis in the 300 hurdles and Dunn in the 400. Joanna Bu finished third in the 1,600, Baskins was third in the discus, Chiquita Sanders was third in the long jump with a 13-4, while JaShata Tyson was third in the shot with a 25-9.
