Oxford closed out its Division 2-5A season with a come-from-behind 11-10 win over West Point in eight innings Tuesday night at Edwin Moak Field. The victory was the Chargers’ (19-5 overall) eighth straight in 2-5A.
The Chargers committed five errors in the game and fell behind 10-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. Oxford started its rally with by scoring seven runs in the sixth inning and then tying the contest with a single run in the seventh.
Jason Barber scored the game-winning run for the Chargers on a passed ball with Aundrel Turner at the plate. Hunter Roth earned the win in relief for the Chargers to improve to 6-2 on the year. Steven Whitfield started the game and logged six innings of work. Roth only gave up two hits in his two innings. Chadwick Lamar finished with two doubles, while Jack McClure and Barber each had two hits. Brooks Krouse led the Chargers with three RBIs. Up next for the Chargers is a road date at Olive Branch Friday night, starting with the junior varsity contest at 5 p.m. (April 17, 2013, Page 9)
