Oxford’s winning streak in Division 2-5A play continued Friday with an 8-3 win over Saltillo. Two nights after rallying to defeat New Hope, the Chargers had to rally from a 3-1 deficit to post the win.
Oxford took the lead for good with three runs in the top of the fifth inning and then tacked on three more in the seventh.
The Chargers collected 10 hits as a team. Jack McClure, Chadwick Lamar and Aundrel Turner each had two RBIs in the win. William Elliott led the Chargers with three hits and also drove in a run. Elliott, McClure and Lamar all had doubles. Steven Whitfield started the game but was relieved with one out in the second by Pittman Phillips, who pitched the remainder of the game to garner the win. Phillips finished with three strikeouts against one walk in 5.2 innings of work.
Oxford (13-5 overall) returns to action Tuesday at home against West Point starting with the junior varsity game at 4 p.m. (April 1, 2013, Page 9)
