Booneville eliminates Water Valley

WATER VALLEY — Falling behind nine runs a night after losing by 11 was not what the Water Valley Lady Blue Devils needed at the start of Saturday’s MHSAA Class 3A playoff game with Booneville.

Unable to recover from their difficult start, WVHS fell 11-1 to Booneville, ending its season in 2013. Water Valley started the first inning, behind the pitching of Tyler Epes, well but the second quickly went from good to bad. A couple of close calls on the bases went against WVHS (10-9 overall)— it appeared that shortstop KeKe Farrow forced out a Booneville runner at second base for the first out but the runner was called safe— and BHS was able to capitalize as the inning continued by it driving in runs with singles, doubles, sacrifice flys and bases-loaded walks.
