OHS tennis blanks Grenada

The Oxford tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season with a lopsided 7-0 victory against the visiting Grenada Chargers at Avent Park on Thursday. Quinn Elliott claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win in boys singles and Grace Ann Jones shut out her opponent in girls singles 6-0, 6-0.

Baxter Elliott and WIll Swindoll combined to take the No. 1 boys doubles point 6-2, 6-1, while Arlis Williams and Callan Shinall cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win in the No. 2 boys doubles point.

At the No. 1 girls doubles spot, Embrey Inman and McClellan Davis won 6-3, 6-4, and Emily Morgan and Lillian Williams combined to win 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 girls doubles.

In the mixed doubles match, Kara Rose and Robert Nance picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory to complete the sweep.

Oxford also picked up a four-match sweep in junior varsity matches: Sam Peeler and James Cutler won 6-0, 6-0, Christopher Le and Ryan Mounce won 6-4, 6-2, Olivia Williams and Ally Shinall combined to earn a 6-3, 6-1 victory and Anne Hardy teamed up with Claire Stevens to win 6-0, 6-2.

Oxford’s next match comes March 7 at West Point. (March 1, 2013, Page 8A)
