New Hope Blanks Chargers to open 2-5A play

Oxford’s visit to New Hope didn’t go as coach Chris Baughman or the Chargers wanted Tuesday night as the Trojans blanked them 8-0 in the Division 2-5A opener.

Oxford fell to 10-5 with the loss, while New Hope is 9-2. The Chargers were limited to just three hits by New Hope starter Landon Boyd. Aundrel Turner led the Charger with two hits, while Hunter Roth had the other. Steven Whitfield suffered the loss on the mound for OHS. He gave up seven hits and walked three in 3.2 innings. Whitfield finished with four strikeouts before being relieved by Pittman Phillips, who was able to limit the Trojans to just one hit and one walk in 2.1 innings. Oxford will return to action against New Hope Friday at home. The varsity contest will begin at 6 p.m. (March 20, 2013, Page 11)
