Lafayette tops North Pontotoc to open division play

Lafayette’s 6-1 win over North Pontotoc Thursday not only gave the Commodores their second straight win in tennis, it also gave them a 1-0 start in Division 2-4A play. Lafayette won all five doubles matches. In boys singles, Lafayette’s Brett Bowen blanked Skyler Turner 6-0, 6-0. 

At No. 1 boys doubles, Hunter Knight and Garrett Reed defeated Matt Russell and Michael Nanney 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 boys doubles, Nathan Hollis and Tanner Odom got past Chandler Steele and Drew Warren 6-1, 6-0. The No. 1 girls doubles team of Abbey Pate and Brittany Mann had not trouble with Chasity Nanney and Jordan Curtis (6-0, 6-0), while the No. 2 girls doubles team of Rachel Reed and Halle Moore outlasted Jordan Curtis and Katelyn Gordon 4-6, 6-4 (10-8). In mixed doubles, Jacob Roberts and Abby Arrington defeated Patrick Haulcomb and Sloan Horton 6-2, 6-1. North Pontotoc’s lone win came at girls singles as Brooke Boisseau defeated Cara Stewart 6-2, 6-2. LHS will be back in action Monday at home against Tuncia-Rosa Fort. (March 1, 2013, Page 8A)
