Lafayette’s girls powerlifting team placed second at the MHSAA Class II meet on Tuesday with a total of 42 points.
Charleston placed first as a team with 66 points, while Pontotoc, Nettleton and M.S. Palmer rounded out double-digit scorers with 24, 20 and 14 points respectively. In the process of placing second, LHS had seven of 10 lifters qualify for the state meet. Cate Clay won the 105-pound division with a 510-pound total, Keyona Peery won the 165 division with a 750 and Ashley Carter placed first in the 198 division with 865. Sparkle Duncan placed second in the 181 division with 785 pounds; Madison Sharp placed second in the 220-pound bracket with 700 pounds; Megan Wooten placed third in the 97-pound division with 445 pounds; Jada McIntosh placed third in the 123-pound division with 625; Meagan Sharp placed fourth in the 148 division with 645; Lashawnda Pettis earned a fourth-place finish in the 198 division with 725 pounds.
