A three-run fifth inning helped lift the Oxford Lady Chargers to a 5-4 win over Myrtle Tuesday night at home.
OHS trailed Myrtle 2-0 after three innings before scoring two runs and then going ahead for good with three runs in the fith. Myrtle scored a single run in the fifth and seventh innings but OHS pitcher Ciara Steward and her defense kept Myrtle from getting any closer. Alexus Malone led OHS with a key single in the decisive fifth inning. A pair of errors then helped the Lady Chargers score their three runs. Steward finished with five strikeouts against just one walk during her time in the circle.
Oxford (3-6 overall) returns to action Thursday at home against New Albany. The junior varsity game begins the doubleheader at 5 p.m. (March 20, 2013, Page 11)
