Former Charger earns All-American status

BLOG — Former Oxford High standout Sam Kendricks finished third in the pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Championships to earn All-American status Friday night.

Kendricks vaulted 18 feet, 4.5 inches setting a new Ole Miss record that Kendricks already owned. His stellar performance at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark., garnered six points for the Rebels.

“Sam came into the national championships and set two school records and two personal bests for an incredible night,” Ole Miss coach Brian O’Neal said in a release. “We have three scoring opportunities on the men’s side and we’re looking to make the most of each one of those. Last year Sam’s mark would have won the national meet, so that lets you know tonight was definitely a strong competition.”
