KANSAS CITY, Mo. — There were several pivotal points in Sunday’s third-round NCAA Tournament game between the No. 12 Ole Miss Rebels and the No. 13 La Salle Explorers. There was none bigger, in the mind of Ole Miss guard Nick Williams, than the five-point swing the Explorers gained due to his foul of La Salle’s Sam Mills.
Ole Miss had just gone ahead 69-64 with 4:18 left to play when Mills put up a 3-pointer. He was fouled by Williams just as his shot went through the net, sending Mills to the line. Mills missed his free throw, but La Salle’s Jerrell Wright grabbed the board and was able to put the miss back up for two points. The game was tied and after that point, the Rebels never really were the same; at least Williams didn’t think so.
