Chargers sweep Madison Central, Ridgeland

Thanks to the weather, the Oxford tennis team has had a rather hectic couple of days. Wednesday, the Chargers knocked off Madison Central 4-3 and Ridgeland 5-2 at the Ridgeland Tennis Center. 

In Oxford’s Madison Central win, Grace Anne Jones won 7-6 (8-6) 6-2, Quinn Elliott and Will Swindoll won 6-3, 5-7 (10-5) in No. 1 boys doubles, Baxter Elliott and Arlis Williams won 6-3, 6-2 in No. 2 boys doubles and the mixed doubles duo of Embrey Inman and Robert Nance won 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

Callan Shinall lost 7-6, 6-2 in boys singles, Kara Rose and Madison Cobb lost 6-0, 6-2 in No. 1 girls doubles and Sarah Nash and McClellan Davis were defeated 2-6, 6-2 (10-7) in the second girls doubles match.

Against Ridgeland, Baxter Elliott and Nance won 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 boys doubles. Rose joined with Inman to win No. 1 girls doubles 6-2, 6-0, while Nash and Davis earned a 6-0, 6-0. In the mixed doubles match, Jones and Swindoll earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory. The No. 2 boys doubles tandem of Arlis Williams and Shinall won 3-6, 6-2 (10-5).

Quinn Elliott lost the boys singles point 4-6, 7-5 (10-5) and Lillian Williams lost the girls singles point 6-0, 6-0. (March 29, 2013, Page 7A)
