Oxford’s pitching, defense and hitting all worked together Tuesday night as the Chargers defeated Saltillo 10-0 in five innings at Edwin Moak Field. It was the first win in Division 2-5A play for the Chargers, who host another division foe, New Hope, tonight at 6.
Hunter Roth earned the victory on the mound for the Chargers. He finished with eight strikeouts in five innings of work and only allowed two walks and just four hits. Roth was aided by his defense not committing an error and an offense that was able to drive in nine runs on five hits. Brooks Krouse and Aundrel Turner led the Chargers with three RBIs apiece. Krouse had two hits, while Roth and Turner each had a double.
William Elliott made his return to the lineup after being briefly hospitalized following a collision with the outfield wall in a game at Tupelo on March 16. Elliott drove in a run and got on base via a walk. Chadwick Lamar and Henry Webb also drove in a run. (March 27, 2013, Page 9)
