New Albany, last year’s MHSAA Class 4A state champions, were no match for last season’s 5A champions. The Oxford Chargers polished off the Bulldogs Friday with a 7-0 win on the road.
In singles, Quinn Elliott defeated Parker Nail 6-2, 6-2, while Grace-Ann Jones defeated Emeligh Hal 6-2, 6-1. At No. 1 boys doubles, Baxter Elliott and Robert Nance beat Christopher Scott and Christian Scott 6-3, 6-2. The No. 2 team of Will Swindoll and Callan Shinall downed Michael Crotts and Christopher Shands 6-2, 6-0. At No. 1 girls doubles, Kara Rose and Embrey Inman dispatched Olivia Dunaway and Hannah Anderson 6-2, 7-5. The No. 2 team of Sarah Nash and McClellan Davis took down Darby Mills and Whitney Littlejohn 6-1, 6-1. In the mixed doubles match, Arlis Williams and Madison Cobb rallied to defeat Walter Smith and Morris Kelly Clayton 6-3, 4-6 (10-5). Oxford (4-0 overall) is off for spring break and will return to action against New Hope March 19 at home. (March 12, 2013, Page 8)
