Two of the most popular players that have ever worn an Ole Miss jersey will be on football’s biggest stage Sunday in the Super Bowl.
Linebacker Patrick Willis, who played for the Rebels from 2003-07, and offensive tackle Michael Oher, who helped guide the Rebels to the 2009 Cotton Bowl, will square off against one another in New Orleans in Super Bowl XLVII. Willis plays for the San Francisco 49ers while Oher is a member of the Baltimore Ravens.
For current Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze, both Willis and Oher mean a lot to him. Freeze came to Ole Miss in 2005 as an assistant under former coach Ed Orgeron. Of course he coached Oher in high school so his connection was already there, but he did have two years to get to know Willis, who seems as fond of Freeze as any current player.
