Oxford’s Adamson headed to Southern Miss

BLOG — Whirlwind is about the only word that begins to describe the last week for Oxford High quarterback Parker Adamson.

Eight days ago, it appeared that the 2012 Oxford EAGLE Player of the Year would be a preferred walk-on at Ole Miss. That was before he met recently hired Southern Miss coach Todd Monken, who offered the 6-foot-5 signal caller a scholarship today.Adamson, who was selected and started for Team Mississippi in the annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game, visited Hattiesburg over the weekend after Monken came to Oxford to meet with Adamson, his family and OHS coaches. Monken, who was hired at USM Dec. 11, 2012 after serving as Oklahoma State’s offensive coordinator for two seasons, and Adamson hit it off during the visits the past week and they ultimately led to an offer and pledge from Adamson.

Adamson finished the 2012 season with 2,463 yards and 19 touchdowns through the air. He also rushed for 311 yards and helped lead the Chargers to a 12-2 overall record and to the semifinals of the MHSAA Class 5A playoffs.
