Ole Miss lands country’s top player

It’s official: The Ole Miss Rebels have one of the top-ranked football recruiting classes in the nation.

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze and his staff started national signing day off with a pledge from the nation’s No. 1 player, defensive end Robert Nkemediche. As the morning went on, the Rebels landed the nation’s top-ranked offensive tackle prospect in Laremy Tunsil of Lake City, Fla., the nation’s top wide receiver in Laquon Treadwell of Crete, Ill., and South Panola safety Tony Conner, the top-rated player at his position in the nation. As of 10 this morning, Ole Miss’ 2013 signing class ranked No. 5 in the nation according to ESPN. Ole Miss’ class was ranked No. 2 in the nation by 24/7 Sports, while the Rebels entered the day ranked No. 11 on Rivals.com’s list and No. 12 on Scout.com. Both rankings were expected to improve with the announcement of Nkemdiche, Tunsil and others. Ole Miss had a total of 18 signed letters of intent. That number does not count the seven players that have already enrolled in school and will participate in spring drills that begin in March.
