Older Overbey debuts at second base

Tuesday was a night of firsts for a lot of young Ole Miss Rebels.

With Tuesday’s 15-2 rout of UT-Martin well in hand,  No. 8 Ole Miss proceeded to have a hockey-like line change that started in the early innings and continued throughout the game.

Four players made their Ole Miss debuts, but one Rebel veteran also made a premiere.

For the first time in his well-traveled Ole Miss career, Preston Overbey took the field at second base.

The junior came to Ole Miss as a highly touted third baseman and has seen playing time at first base, left field, right field and catcher during his two previous seasons in Oxford.

Following Tuesday’s win, Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco said the move was more about getting Overbey’s bat into the lineup than anything else.
