LHS shakes off playoff rust to advance past Rams

INDIANOLA — Just over a week ago, Nacoma James asked “why not us?”

Asked what it would mean to merely make the playoffs in boys basketball for the first time since 2006, the Commodore head coach said he felt like his squad was poised to carry over the success that has become synonymous with Lafayette’s other sports, namely football.

Tuesday night, the Commodores backed James up by fighting to knock off the Gentry Rams 55-50 in overtime in the first round of the MHSAA Class 4A playoffs.
