Lady ‘Dores power their way to region title

Lafayette’s strength and depth were both on display Thursday in the Region 2-4A powerlifting meet at Itawamba AHS.

The Lady Commodores garnered 58 points and 10 of the 12 lifters that competed advanced to the North Half meet at Charleston March 7. Four Lady Commodores finished first to the delight of coach Sandra Smith, who only has three seniors on the team. Cate Clay won the 105-pound division with a 510 pound total, Ashley Carter won the 198 class with an 865, Meghan Sharp took the 148 class with a 605, while Sparkle Duncan was first in the 181 class with a 760. Second-place finishers included Lashawnda Pettis (198, 675), Madison Sharp (220, 655), Keyona Perry (165, 700) and Megan Wooten (97, 440). Third-place finishers included Octavia Burnett (220, 610) and Jada McIntosh (123, 575). Sydney Osbarn (97, 420) and Kendall White (132, 510) both finished fourth. (February 15, 2013, Page 8A)
