Knight comes through for OM

Austin Knight had a perfect view of how the bottom of ninth was playing out from the bullpen Saturday.

Then his number was called and things got hectic.

With the game still scoreless, No. 8 Ole Miss was able to get runners on second and third with two outs and right fielder Will Jamison due up to face Rhode Island left-handed reliever Ty Sterner.

Seeing it as an opportunity to win the game in regulation, Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco opted to make the call to the bullpen for Knight, who was catching the Rebels’ relief pitchers.

After racing to the dugout from the bullpen and changing out of his catching gear, Knight came through with a walk-off single just out of the reach of Rhode Island center fielder Jeff Roy to score pinch runner Cameron Dishon.
