Lafayette’s youth and inexperience, concerns of coach Amy Sutton heading into the season, looked more like a well seasoned unit Monday night in the opener of the MHSAA Class 4A playoffs. The Lady Commodores led from start to finish against Yazoo County and ended up advancing to the 4A North Half Tournament with a 63-51 win over the Lady Panthers in the LHS gym.
The accomplishment was especially pleasing to Sutton, who has consistently led her team to the playoffs and the MHSAA state tournament but didn’t necessarily think it would happen this year after losing standouts such as Mykira and Mariah Buford, Shaq Isom and Nikki McChristian in the last two seasons.
