CHS ends Oxford’s season in North Half

JACKSON — A 16-0 run to start the game set the tone for the Callaway Chargers in their Class 5A North Half matchup with Oxford Friday night in the Northwest Jackson Middle School gym.

Callaway advanced to the MHSAA 5A State Tournament by defeating OHS 73-39 Friday and then nipping Provine 50-49 to win the North Half championship.

Oxford (14-12 overall) didn’t quit despite falling behind by 16. K.T. McCollins scored eight points in the final 3:05 of the first quarter, cutting the lead to 22-8 after the first. Oxford scored 10 more points in the second quarter thanks to the play of sophomores Cortez Jones and Josh Gibbs.
