Recruiting Blog: Ole Miss’ big weekend off to a fast start

It didn’t take Cedar Hill, Texas wide receiver Quincy Adeboyjo long to fall in love with Ole Miss. The four-start wide receiver may have been in Hollywood during the week on an official visit to UCLA, but it became obvious once he got to Oxford and had a chance to hang out with the other recruits on the Square Friday night, Ole Miss was the school for him.

Thanks to the widely used social media tool of Twitter, the 6-foot-3, 175-pound Adeboyjo made his intentions public via his @QuincyA18 account: I planned on announcing on the 29th but why wait when you know where you need to be? Ole Miss is home

Adeboyjo, who was once committed to Texas A&M, caught 91 passes for 1,265 yards and 17 touchdowns this past season at Cedar Hill. He is rated No. 36 on the Dallas News‘ SportsDayHS Area Top 100 list. Rivals.com has Adeboyjo rated as the 88th best player in the state, regardless of position, and the No. 42 wide receiver in the nation.

While it’s rare to get a player to commit on Friday night, Adeboyjo is not expected to be only verbal pledge from the weekend that includes 20 visitors, including the nation’s top player in defensive end Robert Nkemdiche, the nation’s top offensive tackle prospect in Laremy Tunsil and the nation’s top safety prospect in South Panola’s Tony Conner, who was in Oxford Thursday at the Ole Miss-Tennessee basketball game.

In another interesting development, Houston standout defensive end, Chris Jones, a current pledge at Mississippi State, did indeed make it Oxford for an official visit. The Ole Miss Spirit first reported Jones arrival. The 6-foot-7, 255-pound Jones, who played in this year’s Under Armour All-American game, was late arriving because he was playing basketball against Carthage.

More updates on the big recruiting weekend for the Rebels will follow. (January 26, 2013)
