OMS teams post sweep of South Panola

Oxford’s middle school basketball teams earned a home sweep of South Panola in the Oxford High gym Tuesday evening. The seventh-grade Lady Chargers defeated the Lady Tigers 24-7, while the eighth-graders won 27-15. The seventh-grade Chargers improved to 10-0 on the season with a 27-14 win, while the eighth-graders won 50-32 to improve to 10-4. Jordan Freeze, Cymiah McGee and Calicia Zinn each scored six points apiece in the seventh-grade girls game. Grace Ann Joyce finished with four. Monya Baskins led the eighth-grade Lady Chargers with six. Maggie Hobson had five, while Tierra King and Deerayne Mathis each finished with four points. In the seventh-grade boys game, Jamel Thompson and Drew Bianco each scored eight points. All-around effort awards were picked up by Demarea Burt and Jaquan Webb. In the eighth-grade contest, Jarkel Joiner finished with 17 points. Torrey Gordon had 11, while Thomas Allen finished with seven points and eight rebounds. All four teams return to action Thursday against Ripley at OHS beginning at 5 p.m. (January 9, 2013, Page 7)
