OMS hoops teams wrap up seasons

The Oxford Middle School basketball teams wrapped up their collective seasons Thursday at home against Pontotoc. 

The seventh-grade Lady Chargers defeated Pontotoc 21-14, while the eighth-graders held on for a 17-14 win.

The seventh-grade Chargers defeated Pontotoc 35-20 to finish the year 14-0, while the eighth-graders lost 36-29. The seventh-grade Lady Chargers were led by Cymiah McGee’s 12 points.

Grace Ann Joyce had three points, while Jordan Freeze, Calicia Zinn and Christinia Owens each had two points apiece. Monya Baskins led the eighth-grade Lady Chargers with 12 points. Deerayne Mathis had five points. The seventh-grade Lady Chargers finished 8-3, while the eighth grade finished 9-3. Drew Bianco scored nine points to lead the seventh grade Chargers.

Jaquan Webb finished with seven, while Hogan Linzy chipped in six points. Jarkel Joiner led the 14-5 eighth-grade Chargers with 22 points. A.J. Gable, Ben Bianco and A.J. Gipson were credited with good all-around games by coach Marlon Bell. (January 25, 2013, Page 10A)
