Monday was a busy day for the Ole Miss men’s basketball program. Just an hour after junior guard Marshall Henderson was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for his stellar play in wins over Vanderbilt and Arkansas, the Rebels returned to the national polls.
Ole Miss will enter its home game with Tennessee on Thursday night ranked No. 23 in the latest Associated Press poll and No. 24 in the USA Today/Coaches poll. It’s the first time since Feb. 1, 2010 that the Rebels have been ranked in the AP poll. Ole Miss lost the following day, 85-75, to No. 3 Kentucky. The Rebels went on to play in the Men’s NIT Final Four for the second time under coach Andy Kennedy that season. As for the RPI rankings, Ole Miss is currently 32 on RealTimeRPI.com’s list, up over 30 spots since the coming back from Hawaii. Ole Miss’ strength of schedule is ranked 125, while the SEC’s RPI is ranked eighth and behind every major conference as well as the Moutain West and Atlantic 10. (January 22, 2013, Page 6)
