Commodores take first in powerlifting

Led by first-place finishes from Cortez Coleman and Eric Lewis, the Lafayette Commodores won the Wildcat Powerlifting Championship at Calhoun City Saturday.

LHS finished with 47 points, one point more than Oxford. Charleston was third with 39. Lewis finished first in the 165-pound weight division with a total of 1,060 pounds. Coleman was first in the 242 class with a 1,400. Lafayette had five lifters finished second overall. Austin Wren finished second in the 114 division with a 460. Tay Herrod was second to Lewis in the 165 class with a 1,040. Kalen Coleman was second in the 198 division with a 1,350, Alec Michael was second in the 220 class with an 1,185, while Trea Williams finished second in the 275 class with a 1,340. Eli Johnson and John Chance both finished third in the 308 and 242 classes respectively.

Both Chance and Johnson totaled 1,220. Stephen Cook finished fourth in the 275 class with a 1,210, while Malik Vaughn was fourth in the 148 class with a 765. Tyler Kemp rounded out the LHS lifters with a fifth-place finish in the 123 class. (January 28, 2013, Page 10)
