A last-minute cancellation prevented the Oxford Chargers from playing in the annual Coach “C” Shootout at the Lafayette High gym Saturday night. For the second straight year, Southwind of Memphis pulled out of the tournament due to a reported scheduling conflict.
Unlike 2011 when the Chargers were able to secure a game late against Clinton, Southwind’s decision came less than 24 hours before Saturday’s scheduled contest. With one less team in the mix, Oxford was forced to scrap the contest to the extreme disappointment of coach Drew Tyler, who has always felt honored and always accepted the invitation to play in the Coach “C” Shootout.
