Regardless of the grade or age, Oxford-Lafayette week always brings about unique emotions.
Thursday, the two middle school basketball programs faced off in front of a packed house at the Oxford High School gym and it was clear from the get-go that the importance of the crosstown rivalry has trickled down from teams of yesteryear and the high school to the middle schoolers.
Oxford’s seventh-grade boys earned a 35-8 victory over Lafayette, while the eighth-graders used a 28-point first half to claim a 40-17 victory. (December 14, 2012, Page 6A)
