Commodores split on the weekend

After dropping their division opener to Cleveland 6-2 on Friday, the Lafayette boys soccer team registered a convincing 8-1 victory against Independence on Saturday at William L. Buford Stadium.

Austin Fikes and Michael Hudgins each registered goals against Cleveland, while Jayme Miller entered the game in relief of starting keeper Jordan Willms and made three saves without surrendering a goal.

Saturday, Lafayette (6-5 overall, 0-1 Region 3-4A) saw Fikes score four goals. Addison Roush, T.J. Hollis, Casey Vaughn and Nathan Hollis each contributed one goal apiece. Jayme Miller and Nat McChesney each recorded two saves in goal.

The Commodores are off until Jan. 4, when they travel to Lewisburg to kick off the second half of their season. (December 17, 2012, Page 3B)
