Chargers sweep Pontotoc in middle school action

Oxford’s seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball teams earned road wins over Pontotoc on Thursday night.

The seventh-grade Chargers defeated the Warriors 33-15 to improve to 7-0. Demarea Burt led the way with nine points. Jamil Thompson scored seven, while Naziah Stamps had a good all around game, according to coach Marlon Bell. The eighth-grade Chargers won 26-19 to improve to 6-2. Torey Gordon scored nine points, while Jarkel Joiner had eight. Thomas Allen was credited with a good rebounding effort, while Ben Bianco and A.J. Gable each were praised for their overall play. The eighth-grade Chargers will return to action Saturday for three games in their annual one-day tournament at Oxford High’s gym. The Chargers will play against Tupelo at 11 a.m., then Corinth at 2:20 p.m. and then end against Southaven at 4:50. Admission is $5 and it will include an all-day pass. (December 7, 2012, Page 7A)
