Young Chargers step up in Round 1

Oxford’s underclassmen answered when called upon Friday. For the majority of the season the Chargers leaned heavily on upperclassmen to compile 10 straight wins.

Due to injuries to several key starters, Oxford was forced to turn to its youngsters in its MHSAA Class 5A first-round matchup against Provine.

Oxford’s underclassmen did more than just fill in, leading the Chargers to a 27-14 victory at Bobby Holcomb Field.

Sophomores Courtland Barnes and Collin Le accounted for three rushing touchdowns, while sophomore defensive back K.T. McCollin hauled in three interceptions. Freshman defensive back D.K. Metcalf also came up big, recording an interception and a fumble recovery. (November 12, 2012, Page 4B)
