UM student target of racist attacks

A freshman at the University of Mississippi claims he has been the ongoing target of racial attacks as late as Monday evening when his truck was torn apart and racial slurs carved into the truck. UPD said FBI is now working on the case. (November 9, 2012, Page 2A)

      I find it funny that the word “claims” was placed in this story. As if this student may have possibly ripped his own vehicle apart and wrote racial slurs on it.

      @NicoleW It’s rare, but sometimes people do fake being victims of crimes, or there is some other circumstance that changes the nature of the event from how it may appear initially. This is simply the language journalists use in an ongoing legal situation; everything is conditional at first.
