Son of former Major Leaguer commits to Rebels

Brantley Bell, a 2013 shortstop from Phoenix  has verbally committed to the Ole Miss baseball team according to RebelGrove.com.

Bell (6-foot-2, 170 pounds) is the son of Major League veteran Jay Bell.

Scouting service Perfect Game USA rates Bell as the No. 202 player in his class and grades him at a 9.5.

According to Perfect Game, a 9 equates to a “potential top 10 round pick and/or highest level college prospect,” while a 10 is “potential very high draft pick and/or elite level college prospect.”

The following is Perfect Game’s writeup on Bell: “Long and lean athletic build, projects well physically. 6.94 runner, quick infield release, good arm strength, showed his athleticism, has ability to play all over the infield. Righthanded hitter, wide stance rotational swing, short hands to the ball, has quick hands, best contact on the inside half, pull line drive contact, hitting tools to improve with additional strength. Son of former ML’er Jay Bell. Very good student.” (November 13, 2012, Page 7)
