Junior forward/midfielder Mandy McCalla of the Ole Miss soccer team has been named a third team All-America selection by CollegeSportsMadness.com, the online publication announced on Monday with the announcement of its annual team.
McCalla, who was named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Year by the same publication, is tied for the SEC lead in goals scored (13) and is second in points (32) after helping the Lady Rebels to a 13-9 record and a berth in the SEC Tournament for the first time since the 2009 season.
An All-SEC selection, McCalla exploded offensively this season for the Rebels after posting only five goals as a sophomore.
Her 13 goals tied for the league and team lead with teammate Rafaelle Souza while her seven assists also tied for the team lead with Souza and ranked in the top 10 in the conference.
McCalla turned in some of her best performances on the season in conference play this season, putting in a season-high two goals against both Arkansas and LSU.
McCalla also put in two goals against UALR during a stretch of four consecutive shutouts for the Lady Rebels. Ole Miss posted eight shutout wins on the season.
The junior tallied four game-winning goals on the season against Saint Louis in the season opener, Texas Tech, UAB and at Alabama. She also came up with a season-high two assists in the regular-season finale at Mississippi State. (November 6, 2012, Page 7)
